Points racing has returned to the Showbarn with 100+ entries to start the season! The first Outlaw R/C points race of the 2016/17 Indoor Off-road Carpet Series was held on October 8th and 112 entries tussled it out for early season bragging rights. The new and improved track was still the talk of the day with racers across the board just happy to have more room to play! The layout, which remained unchanged from the September shakedown race has proven both challenging and exciting for racers so far. A combination of tight technical areas snaking through high speed sections and jumps with short landings into corners has kept everyone clean, close on the clock and great racing has been the[…]

More exciting news for fans of indoor off-road carpet racing in the PNW with Diehard R/C locking in dates for the return of their highly anticipated travelling racing series. For their sophomore season an 8 race series (1 throw out) will return primarily to the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe Washington, with some dates still to have locations confirmed. Formerly known as the “Travelling Turf Series” feedback on the hard wearing astro (think high-end tennis court) was unanimous. Tire wear was unavoidable and being fast required good tires. Lots of good tires. Rather than sit idly by and let racers deal with the issue, the Diehard team took a refreshingly pro-active approach to the concerns and subsequent research through the[…]

outlaw rc track layout

Outlaw R/C in Cloverdale BC hosted their first Saturday event of the 2016/17 Indoor Carpet Series, a non-points shakedown for racers to dust off the cobwebs. Race results have not been posted at this time. The race day was a good trial for everyone involved with many exciting improvements being implemented and new systems needing to be refined. The larger racing surface was the most talked about, the track is now impressively huge! Lap times have gone from about 13 seconds last year to now being in the low 20 second range. This alone has spread drivers out and decreased the wheel to wheel carnage but new rounded corner pipes and improved placement should also help minimize crash damage. 108[…]

cody grams 1/8 e-truggy

The final Northwest Championship Tour (NCT) showdown of 2016 was the Columbia Cup at Tri-Cities R/C in Pasco Washington on September 16-18 and despite persistent weather delays and a lost round of qualifying, it did NOT disappoint! Racing has this knack of creating great storylines and coming into the final round the 1/8 nitro buggy fight between Mike “The Hammer” Dana (AE) and Tayler “Wonder Boy” Wonders (Kyosho) was the talk of the town. They were practically inseparable through 5 rounds, both drivers having their share of luck good and bad throughout the summer. Neither racer had a perfect weekend in Pasco either. Dana did snag the TQ and they were both in solid A spots but the outcome was[…]

R/C racing in Western Canada received a massive boost recently with confirmation of a some exciting new developments for Outlaw R/C’s winter indoor racing program which will continue in the Cloverdale Fairgrounds Showbarn building. Alongside confirmation of a 13 race (11 points, 2 non-points) Saturday series, a 4 month lease period of the Showbarn from December 15th to April 15th was also announced. The news, which also included a number of track enhancements, is a very exciting development for racing in Vancouver and the surrounding areas. The Saturday series will run from September until April with the first five races before the lease requiring volunteer help to setup and tear down on race weekends. The lease, which will eliminate the[…]

skagit raceway

The Northwest Championship Tour (NCT) made it’s fourth stop of the the summer at Burlington Washington’s Skagit River R/C Raceway on July 22-24. The weather was wetter than expected come Friday morning and many racers arrived to find practice delayed by quite a few hours. Hard work by all involved saw the track quickly returned to a raceable condition, improving throughout the weekend and by Sunday the racing was as hot as the reading on the thermometer. The best outdoor racers in the Pacific Northwest gather for the NCT and Burlington’s Westside Challenge is traditionally one of the most popular stops. Over 240 entries confirmed that for yet another year, racers and their families happy to call the expansive green[…]

parma baja '55 short course body

50’s Gasser Meets Vintage Stock Car in This Sweet Candy Combo! When deciding how to paint a hot rod it can be easy to gravitate towards the traditional flames. Regardless of the scale or how authentic the piece is, a hot rod is a hot rod and by it’s very definition is built to go fast! While flames and speed go together like Vegemite and toast (not always in a good way though…),the fact is I struggle to cut flames cleanly and when it comes to painting a clients body, those clean cuts are a must. When my buddy Josh dropped off the Parma Baja ’55 Short Course body and his creative direction maxed out at “make it look cool”[…]

1/8 truggy body fresh paint

Every so often in the body painting part of my job the opportunity to try something I have been putting off for a while pops up in the overall theme for a project. Lightning is one example and recently I got to have a go at recreating some lightning bolts on a 1/8 truggy body for a buddies Team Associated RC8T. Check out the results and how I got there below! As I mentioned, the lightning bolt effect is something I had wanted to try for a while but just hadn’t got around to it. It appeared in a tutorial of some sort that I saw once and got put away in the memory bank for a rainy day. When[…]

Max-D gets big air in Vancouver

Saturday February 27th saw the return of monster truck mayhem at BC Place in Vancouver Canada as part of the Monster Jam 2016 Tour. I couldn’t resist going along to feel the thumping V8 monsters shake the stadium to it’s core! And of course, see some carnage too! My wife and I had some great seats and I managed to get some really cool shots! As always you can scroll down for highlights or click the links below to see the full albums! Team Associated B44.3 paint project

“It was like a rainbow exploded inside a fish bowl!!” The B44.3 is probably the most popular 1/10 electric 4wd buggy out there in  racing land and the JConcepts Finnisher is in turn a very familiar sight adorning them. This body has a long, wide, square profile but that’s not a negative thing, it needs to be that way in order to house the inner workings of the AE 4-wheeler, and it works really well. It’s cab forward and almost vertical front window rake  certainly looks pretty trick out on the track. I was really looking forward to painting this body! As always, I started by cleaning the body with dish soap and hot water. Click here to find out how[…]
