“When you wanna be the best, you go and shoot the best!” It’s no secret that throughout it’s six previous editions the JConcepts Indoor National Series has grown to become one of, if not THE premier indoor 1/10 travelling race tour in North America. It travels to great race tracks. It attracts top local talent and brings pro talent with it. It brings hype. And atmosphere. Most importantly it creates a culture of great racing. And on May 19-21 2017, for the second race of it’s 7th season the JConcepts INS brought it all, including a fleet of pro talent, to PNW racing mecca Tacoma R/C Raceway that would rival any top level event on the planet. Ryan Cavalieri, Spencer[…]
The Cabin Fever R/C Supercross race in Lewiston Idaho has become a fixture of the racing scene in the greater north west region and this year, I got to go and experience it! Known as the first dirt race of the year in this area it has become something of a legendary event. Intrigued by the stories, I joined my local club racing buddy and Maclan teammate Rob in his RV for the eight and a half hour trek from Vancouver (after 3 hrs in snow from Whistler the day before!) and we made it to the Lewiston Roundup mid afternoon on the Friday which had been assigned for practice. The event would go on to draw 296 entries, supposedly[…]
The weekend of January 27-29 saw the return of the North West Model Hobby Expo to the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, Washington. Along with displays and demonstrations from numerous model builders and groups, Diehard RC also hosted their 2017 carpet off-road trophy race as part of the three day festival. The Toy CarCreative always loves to support the local trophy races and so I packed up the truck with all my gear and headed south for a weekend of awesome racing with good friends. The action was fast and furious and the competition fierce. Along with competing in both 2wd and 4wd modified buggy classes I also took some time between races to snap a few frames. While my[…]
More exciting news for fans of indoor off-road carpet racing in the PNW with Diehard R/C locking in dates for the return of their highly anticipated travelling racing series. For their sophomore season an 8 race series (1 throw out) will return primarily to the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe Washington, with some dates still to have locations confirmed. Formerly known as the “Travelling Turf Series” feedback on the hard wearing astro (think high-end tennis court) was unanimous. Tire wear was unavoidable and being fast required good tires. Lots of good tires. Rather than sit idly by and let racers deal with the issue, the Diehard team took a refreshingly pro-active approach to the concerns and subsequent research through the[…]
The final Northwest Championship Tour (NCT) showdown of 2016 was the Columbia Cup at Tri-Cities R/C in Pasco Washington on September 16-18 and despite persistent weather delays and a lost round of qualifying, it did NOT disappoint! Racing has this knack of creating great storylines and coming into the final round the 1/8 nitro buggy fight between Mike “The Hammer” Dana (AE) and Tayler “Wonder Boy” Wonders (Kyosho) was the talk of the town. They were practically inseparable through 5 rounds, both drivers having their share of luck good and bad throughout the summer. Neither racer had a perfect weekend in Pasco either. Dana did snag the TQ and they were both in solid A spots but the outcome was[…]
The Northwest Championship Tour (NCT) made it’s fourth stop of the the summer at Burlington Washington’s Skagit River R/C Raceway on July 22-24. The weather was wetter than expected come Friday morning and many racers arrived to find practice delayed by quite a few hours. Hard work by all involved saw the track quickly returned to a raceable condition, improving throughout the weekend and by Sunday the racing was as hot as the reading on the thermometer. The best outdoor racers in the Pacific Northwest gather for the NCT and Burlington’s Westside Challenge is traditionally one of the most popular stops. Over 240 entries confirmed that for yet another year, racers and their families happy to call the expansive green[…]
The 2016 Reedy International Off-Road Race of Champions was one of the most epic battles ever seen on dirt and I was lucky enough to be part of the experience! A huge congratulations and thank you must go out to the organizers, creators, participants, families, friends and spectators who made the 2016 Reedy such an incredible event. Everyone was amazing! In between trying to keep my cars on the track during the five day Reedy marathon I did manage to get the camera out and fire off some sweet frames. The entire album in it’s 150 photo glory can be seen on Facebook and Flickr, or as always scroll down the page to see some highlights. Enjoy!

During my recent visit to Tacoma R/C Raceway I vowed to make sure I got the camera out on this trip! Not making the mains was a blessing in disguise because it gave me a few hours on Sunday afternoon to do just that! Axial today released a new RTR trophy truck and #TheToyCarCreative wants one badly! Based on the 1/10 Yeti platform, fitted with a whole bunch of scale goodies and officially licensed by SCORE® International Off-Road, this truck could be a ground breaker for the hobby. As vehicles become more capable in true off-road situations and the hobby progresses further away from the traditional race day format and goes more mobile, the appeal of Baja style racing is becoming very obvious. The new Axial Yeti™ SCORE® Trophy Truck® RTR (kit# 90050) is the truck to do it with and it’s on our Christmas lists for sure! Watch the video and then keep scrolling for the gallery!
